Visit the mysterious Mayan archaeological site of Ek Balam early in the morning; it was only unearthed in 1997. Climb the 31-meter-high acropolis and enjoy the breathtaking view over the jungle. Discover the many sculptures carved from stone or modeled in stucco. Finds of luxury objects made of jade, bone, and marine animals demonstrate that Ek Balam was a particularly wealthy and influential Mayan capital.

After the interesting guided tour of the Mayan site, you will depart towards Las Coloradas and Rio Lagartos. Along the way, you will pass typical Yucatec towns like Tizimin and several haciendas whose inhabitants live off agriculture and livestock farming.

At your first stop, marvel at Las Coloradas, a sea salt production site where seawater is separated in large basins to extract sea salt and transform it into table salt. This process creates pinkish water, which is why Las Coloradas has become increasingly famous in recent years, especially on social media, with its impressive photos of the "pink lake." It's always a wonderful place to take some unforgettable vacation photos.

Afterwards, board small motorboats and experience a river trip through the Rio Lagartos National Park, which was declared a nature reserve in 1979. This river flows directly into the Gulf of Mexico and runs parallel to the coast. During the trip through mangrove forests, visit a salt lake. Take the opportunity to enjoy a mud bath to benefit your skin from its rich mineral content.

Experience the abundance of birdlife on this approximately 2-hour boat trip, including flamingos (the largest population in Mexico), eagles, herons, and pelicans. Occasionally, you might even spot a crocodile.

Enjoy a delicious meal in a traditional restaurant in the quiet fishing village of Rio Lagartos before beginning your return journey.

Please note that this is an excursion with very long driving distances, which also depends on which hotel you are staying in.
