Experience the breathtaking underwater world of the Mayans with its diverse cenotes and marine life.

The Yucatan Peninsula consists of a limestone plateau, which is often particularly thin in the northern part and frequently collapses.

Beneath the limestone lies the world's largest underground river system, whose water transparency is fascinating (visibility up to 80 m, in the sea it is often only around 10 to 15 m).

Cenotes are the entrances to the "caves"; they can be almost completely closed, half-open, or nearly open, filled with water or completely dry. The peninsula's subsoil can be imagined as a kind of "Swiss cheese," riddled with holes. The ancient Mayans never entered cenotes, as they considered them entrances to the underworld, the realm of the dead and gods. They were often used to throw offerings such as jade, statues, and even human sacrifices into them. Even today, newly discovered cenotes continue to yield treasures and bones. Only a minimal number have been discovered and explored by archaeologists and divers due to the vast and dense jungle.

On this jungle excursion, experience a semi-open cenote where you can spot small freshwater turtles in the early morning. While you're there, you'll also have the opportunity to visit a typical Mayan "sauna" (temazcal) and an altar used by shamans for ceremonies.

At the next closed cenote, admire the great variety of stalactites and stalagmites, both above and below the water.

After all these impressions, relax with a delicious lunch in Tulum before continuing on to the coast.

Take a motorboat to a reef where you can admire colorful corals and fish, as well as turtles and rays. As a grand finale, stop at the famous Mayan ruins of Tulum, which offer a perfect opportunity for a photo shoot with the temple in the background.

This excursion is not only suitable for snorkelers, but also for anyone who simply wants to take in the special impressions while swimming in the water.
